| JD Edwards was originally founded in 1977, in Denver, Colorado, the company being one of the original developers of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. The founders desire was to create a system that was driven by the customers needs for tightly integrated systems. As explained by Ed McVaney "you can’t go into a moderate-sized company and just put in a payroll. You have to put in payroll and job cost, general ledger, inventory, fixed assets and the whole thing." EnterpriseOne was the version of JD Edwards that was accessed through a web browser - first released in 2001. It is a unique ERP solution as it allows you to use the database of your choice, as well as operating system, hardware and middleware - JD Edwards has long been recognised as the best of breed ERP solution for companies operating in the Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Logistics sectors as well as Property, Engineering and Construction sectors. PeopleSoft - a competitor - acquired the JD Edwards company in 2003, and were themselves bought out by Oracle in 2004, Since the acquisition Oracle have continuously invested in new applications, and continued development of existing applications to bring us to the current version 9.0. Applications Unlimited is Oracle's plan to continue enhancement of their acquired applications product lines (eg JD Edwards, Peoplesoft, Siebel, ATG, and Ndevr's own GHGAS,) while simultaneously developing the next generation of applications. Their Lifetime Support Policy ensures that there will be continued support and ongoing investment for the JD Edwards product - as well as a clear upgrade path to the next generation of applications. Worldwide the customer base of JD Edwards continues to grow, simply because it is still the best choice for companies operating in the core strength industry sectors. The solution is flexible and scalable with Oracle partners around the world having invested heavily in ensuring there are accelerated implementation solutions to bring down the overall costs of ownership - making Tier 1 ERP software an affordable option for small and mid-size companies.
